Mr Ireland has shown himself to be a dynamic and visionary leader.

He has done an excellent job of continuing the good work started by his predecessor, Simon Warren, and has provided the perfect administrative foil to back up the city council’s ongoing regeneration plans.

The last few years have been tough times for our local authorities, and Wolverhampton council has certainly not been spared the consequences of financial constraints.

However, difficult decisions have been made with common sense and long term prosperity in mind.

It is undeniable that positive steps to regenerate the city have been achieved under Mr Ireland’s stewardship.

He has been the driving force behind a number of key projects.

We wish him all the best for his next role. For Wolverhampton council, the challenge is to appoint a successor with the same drive and high skill level.
