The sun shone, the crowds came out and the players showed off the Football League Championship trophy.

The council estimated up to 80,000 people came out to celebrate the club’s amazing success.

This will live long in everyone’s memories.

Those young and old will all remember this day until their dying day.

It was the suitable ending to a season which has seen some of the best football played in the gold and black colours.

The players have done their part on the pitch and it has been met by pure joy from the fans, who yesterday lapped up the emotion for a very special Bank Holiday Monday.

The manager, players and board members and staff have been magnificent all season long, and they have been matched in the stands by some of the best football supporters the world has ever seen.

The Wolves fans have been magnificent. They are now even more well known for their loyalty and passion when backing the team on the pitch.

Even experienced football people like Nuno Espírito Santo and his super agent Jorge Mendes must have been taken aback, not just yesterday but throughout the season.

Wherever they have travelled in the world it would be hard to find fans as fervent and ardent as those in Wolverhampton.

Now the next adventure begins on and off the pitch.

Supporters can look forward to the Premier League and glamour ties against the best clubs in the world, including Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Make no doubt about it, Molineux will be rocking next season, and it is no more than the fans deserve after a tricky few years.

As Beverley Knight, one of Wolverhampton’s favourite daughters, tweeted yesterday, the team’s success has brought unity.

Wolves’ season has resulted in a coming together of the community, it has sparked excitement and, most importantly, pride across the city.

But this is not just a Wolves issue.

It is Wolverhampton.

People in the city should be proud, be able to puff out their chests and say ‘Premier League, we are coming for you’.
