Vehicles seized on M6 near Stafford with warning to drivers that 'it's not worth the risk'

Staffordshire Police have seized vehicles from uninsured drivers on the M6 - including a Range Rover.

Two vehicles have been seized from uninsured drivers caught on the M6 near Stafford in the last 24 hours.

Officers from Staffordshire Police’s Road Crime Team warned motorists that ‘it’s not worth the risk’ after catching the first driver behind the wheel of a red Mercedes CO1 that had been uninsured since March.

Posting an image of the vehicle to X, a spokesperson for the unit said: “Driving without insurance? It’s not worth the risk

“This Mercedes was stopped on the M6 through Stafford after checks revealed it hadn’t been insured since March. The vehicle was seized and the driver reported.”

However, they weren’t the only driver taking risks on the motorway as a Range Rover was pulled over less than 24 hours later between Junctions 13 and 14.

The driver was found to only have a provisional license and the vehicle was uninsured.

“M6 J13 to J14 Range Rover stopped for a check as it was recently stopped & seized for no insurance,” the spokesperson added, alongside an image of a police unit and the seized vehicle pulled over.

“Check on the driver on this occasion revealed the held a provisional licence and no insurance. Vehicle seized and driver reported.”

The vehicles were seized as part of Operation Lightning - a dedicated operation focusing on road safety, helping to make Staffordshire's roads safer.

It aims to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on the roads and to disrupt and deter criminals from using the road network.
