A motorcyclist was killed in a rush-hour crash on a notorious Wolverhampton road today.

The accident happened in Station Drive in Four Ashes, resulting in traffic congestion for commuters.

The air ambulance was called to the scene where paramedics battled in vain to save the man.

Ambulance service spokesman John Hawker said: "On arrival crews found a motorcycle and a vehicle had been in collision.

"The man riding the motorcycle had suffered serious multiple injuries and despite the best efforts of ambulance crews nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene. No other person was injured in the collision."

The crash happened at 8.10am, just yards from where the road twists under a low bridge.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "This road is diabolical. Cars and motorcycles come bombing under the bridge and travel down the road at ridiculous speeds."
