The 36 Black Country pubs, restaurants and takeaways with the lowest hygiene ratings ordered to make improvements

New Food Standards Agency (FSA) hygiene ratings have been carried out, inspecting the cleanliness and food handling techniques of eateries across the Black Country.

The rating system does not assess food quality or customer service; instead, it provides a clear snapshot of how safely and hygienically food is handled behind the scenes.

Inspectors do this by examining three key areas: How food is prepared, cooked, cooled and stored; the cleanliness, layout and conditions of the premises; and the systems and training in place to ensure food is kept safe.

Each area is scored and contributes to an overall rating from zero to five. A score of five indicates very good hygiene standards, while a zero means urgent improvement is required.

More than 35 businesses were handed ratings of one or zero, the lowest on the scale, with the full list below.
