Storm Darragh didn't dampen celebrations for Steelmen fans becoming owners of own club despite match cancellation

Delighted Bilston Town Football Club fans have  been celebrating becoming among the first to own their own league club.

The membership sale was launched on Saturday despite the Steelmen's Midland Football League Division One home game against Paget Rangers being cancelled due to Storm Darragh.

Club vice chairman Jay Morgan says:  "The launch was superb. About 50 people came in to sign up from across the age groups which was brilliant.

"We also sold some hats and scarves which was a bonus seeing that it's winter. Our local MP Pat McFadden spent about an hour with us.

"It's a good start to  the registration campaign. We now have about 100 members and we're aiming for up to 500 members.

"People can follow on social media for more information about how to sign up."

Under the Community Benefit Society scheme each member will be issued with a share in the company owning the football club with community ownership to help secure its future.

They were joined at the launch by Wolverhampton South East MP Mr McFadden and other dignitaries for the launch of a new campaign to drum up more registrations for the Steelmen's scheme on Saturday at the ground in Queen Street, Lunt.

The Cabinet Minister posted on Facebook: "It's great to be at Bilston Town FC to mark the moment when the club turns into a fan owned club for just £10 a year now.

"If you are a supporter and live here in Bilston or anywhere in the world, you can sign up, become a club member, and help secure the future of the club."
