Staffordshire wind farm developers dealt a fresh blow

Developers wanting to install wind turbines in Staffordshire were dealt another blow today as council chiefs further cemented their opposition.

In the wake of a Government row over onshore schemes, county council environment boss Mark Winnington echoed the sentiments of one minister who this week said "enough is enough".

Energy minister John Hayes made the comments, which forced Prime Minister David Cameron to step in and say Number 10 remained committed to renewable energy.

The row comes after county councillors agreed to oppose all major wind turbine schemes proposed for Staffordshire.

Councillor Winnington said today: "While we understand the need for renewable energy, I think that many people will agree that enough is enough.

"Staffordshire is a predominantly rural county and has some outstanding landscapes which should not be compromised. Similarly we do not want to see them anywhere where they could have a detrimental impact on the local economy, particularly our ever expanding tourism industry."

The authority announced last month it will object to any single turbine reaching a height of more than 164ft and any plans for more than 10 turbines at a single site.
