A Cannock boy died in hospital two days after his third birthday, an inquest heard.

Jonnie Meek was admitted to Stafford County Hospital on August 11, 2014, and died later that day.

An inquest in Shrewsbury heard Jonnie had a diagnosis of De Grouchy Syndrome, a genetic chromosomal disorder.

He had attended the hospital on the day for a trial of a new peg feed.

His parents, John and April, rejected the first inquest’s verdict in 2015 that their son died of natural causes due to pneumonia – they believe he died from a severe allergic reaction to milk given to him by medical staff.

After a dispute, a High Court ruled in April that there should be a new inquest to find out what happened.

Heath Westerman, assistant coroner for Shropshire, adjourned proceedings for a pre-inquest review on November 13.
