Crews tackle 100 tonnes of blazing rubbish at Cannock recycling centre

Fire crews were called to tackle a blaze in Cannock involving 100 tonnes of domestic and commercial waste.
Six crews were called to a recycling centre in the Leacroft Lane area at around 2pm on Thursday.
Crews from Cannock, Rugeley, Stafford and Penkridge were using two main jets, two breathing apparatus and two hydro-shields as they tackled the fire, accessing water from a nearby canal.
Firefighters are also using plant machinery to smother the fire along with onsite water bags.
Staff at the site were advised to wear protective masks while crews worked to dispel smoke in the area and nearby residents advised to keep their windows closed.
