Speed bumps, 20mph limit and zebra crossing planned for roads around Black Country school

Public invited to have their say on road safety scheme

Speed bumps, a new crossing and a 20mph speed limit are planned for three roads close to a Black Country school in an attempt to reduce the accident risk.

A programme of 29 ‘speed cushions’ and one ‘speed table’ are proposed to cover Powis Avenue, Highfield Road and Cupfields Avenue, close to the Jubilee Park Academy in Tipton.

A 20mph speed limit is also proposed for Highfield Road, between Watt Road and Jubilee Road, with road markings and signs outside the school.

Members of the public are now invited to share their thoughts on the plan as part of a public consultation.

Sandwell Council is proposing 16 speed cushions, which are narrow humps designed not to affect larger vehicles such as buses, ambulances and fire engines, are planned for Highfield Avenue. A further nine cushions in Powis Avenue and four cushions in Cupfields Avenue.

A speed table, a full-width raised area, is also planned for the junction of Jubilee Road and Watt Road.

A new zebra crossing is also proposed for Powis Avenue, south-west of the junction with Arthur Road.

The council has now opened a consultation on the scheme, and anybody wishing to express their opinions can write to Simon Chadwick at Highway Services, Sandwell Council House, Freeth Street, Oldbury B69 3DE or email [email protected] by November 26.
