As I child, I was a huge fan of the children’s novel, The Secret Garden, written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. In the story, the character Mary Lennox finds a gorgeous secret garden in the house she’s staying in.
But did you know that the Black Country has its very own garden? Here, you can tap into your childlike imagination. That place which definitely worth a visit is the Walled Garden in Stevens Park Wollescote, Stourbridge.
Despite, it being called a Walled Garden, many liken it to a secret garden that’s perfect for meandering around in the warm weather.
Simon Kiszka from Black Country Mental Health who is the lead on the Walled Garden project told the Express & Star, that the garden is a “lovely” place to visit.
He said: “It’s got lovely borders with flowers and shrub.
“It’s just a really nice place to hold events and for people to come walk around, just to enjoy the environment, we get a lot of visitors and locals come nearly every day.
“We get visitors all the time, lot’s of older folks walking their dogs and sitting on the bench. They listen to the birds.”
Similarly, Google reviews, one reviewer, Mark Ellis said: “A lovely soothing green space with plenty of facilities for children and adults. Plus there's a beautiful walled garden tended to by a local charity.”
The Secret Garden is tended by Black Country Mental Health and they’ve shared these incredible photos below:
