Stourbridge school on alert after reports of suspected drug-laced vapes among pupils

Parents had been discussing the suspected use of vapes on Facebook

A secondary school in Stourbridge has moved to reassure parents after a social media post claimed students were using vapes containing synthetic substances.

The warning was posted on Facebook by a parent, who alleged their daughter had been found with a vape containing synthetic THC, believed to be ’spice.’

The parent wrote: “Beware all parents. My daughter was found today with a vape. It contained a synthetic THC.

“I’m guessing spice. Reported to the police but check your kids please.

“My child attends Redhill but she said all the kids have them purchased online and delivered to them at a meeting place.”

Responding to the claims, Redhill School headteacher James Clayton said student welfare remained the school’s top priority.

He said: “The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority.

“We have robust safeguarding policies in place, provide education on the risks of substance misuse, and work closely with parents and relevant agencies to maintain a safe environment.

“We have no current or recent evidence of drug use within the school. However, we take any concerns seriously and remain vigilant at all times.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said officers had not been called to any incidents at the school linked to the claims.

Synthetic cannabinoids, sometimes referred to as ‘spice,’ are man-made substances designed to mimic the effects of cannabis and can carry serious health risks.

Schools across the UK have increasingly warned parents about illegal or unregulated vape products, particularly those sold online or through social media channels.
