Reminder on waste pick-up

The recycling team at Sandwell Council is reminding householders that many homes across the borough are now covered by regular recycling collections through green boxes and wheelie bins.

After a barbecue or party in the garden residents can use the green box or green bag scheme for empty food and drinks cans, clean aluminium foil, and even metal lids from bottles and jars.

Residents who have a green box for recycling can also place glass bottles and jars into their box for the weekly collection in Sandwell.

Green garden waste is collected fortnightly through the wheelie bin service, or the bookable bag collection service for residents unable to have wheelie bins..

The garden waste wheeled bin service was expanded across the borough earlier this year and more than 94,000 homes are now serviced with a fortnightly wheeled bin collection.

Residents who are unable to have the wheeled bin service for operational reasons can contact the Council to book the collection of up to 6 bags of garden waste per month, free of charge.

Councillor Mahboob Hussain, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: "Recycling is getting easier for the majority of residents in the borough and we actively encourage resident participation to get into the recycling habit."

Residents who do not yet have a recycling collection from their home can use any of the local recycling centres across the borough.
