Advice to residents in West Midlands villages following burglaries

Residents in two villages are being warned to be vigilant after a recent spate of burglaries.

Residents in two villages are being urged to be vigilant as police officers investigate a spate of burglaries in the area.

West Mercia Police said that eight burglaries were reported over a six week period in March and April in Hagley and Belbroughton.

The force said that, on three occasions, offenders entered through open first floor windows, while on three other occasions, offenders forced entry by snapping a lock.

It also said that while on three occasions, nothing was stolen, there were three reports of jewellery being stolen and one theft and one attempted theft of a boiler.

Detective Inspector Dave Knight said “We are carrying out a thorough investigation into these incidents and at this stage we believe they are linked.

“We don’t underestimate the impact that burglary has on those who are affected.

“Whilst it is the offenders who are responsible, these incidents serve as a timely reminder to residents to keep their properties secure, particularly as the warmer weather arrives.

“If you are going away, or out for the day during the school holidays, please ensure your windows are closed and secure.”

“Please take extra care to ensure rear and patio doors are secured and consider changing your locks to ones that cannot be snapped.

“If you are able to, consider installing motion sensor CCTV as this can be linked directly to a mobile device.

“It is a good idea to take photos of your property and possessions, and mark valuables with SmartWater, for your own records and for insurance purposes which would make them more easily identifiable if they were ever stolen.

“Finally, if you do come across anyone attempting to steal your property or breaking into your home, please do not approach them. Call 999 immediately and report it to us.”
