Police to use stop and search powers in Birmingham tonight as murder investigation continues
The Section 60 powers will be in place until the early hours of Wednesday in part of Birmingham
Police in parts of Birmingham will be using extra stop and search powers through the night as an investigation into the murder of a man continues.
West Midlands Police said the Section 60 powers will be in place in parts of Alum Rock and Bordesley Green until 3am on Wednesday (September 2), following a fatal stabbing in Hodge Hill on August 25.
The force said officers are continuing to investigate what is believed to be a targeted attack. Seven people have been arrested as part of the investigation.
Two people remain in custody on suspicion of murder, while a third is being held on suspicion of assisting an offender and four others have been released on bail while the investigation continues.
Section 60 powers, which have been used in the same area in recent days, allow officers to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.
Police said a number of people have been arrested and weapons have been seized as a result of officers using the powers.

Chief Inspector Chanelle Whitney said: “We are pleased that these powers have led to dangerous weapons being taken off the streets, and we continue to work with the community to listen to their concerns and act on intelligence.
“We have listened to the community, and know they support us using our powers to keep the public safe.
“Weapons and violence have absolutely no place in Birmingham or anywhere in the West Midlands, and we are relentlessly targeting those involved in it.
“We are clear that anyone found carrying a weapon or intent on violence will be dealt with and brought to justice.
"Patrols are continuing around the area as we work to keep the public safe and prevent disorder."
