Plans for new pet cremation service in Staffordshire
It would be the first in the area if approved
Plans have been put forward for a new pet cremation service in Lichfield.
The facility is set to be located at Britannia Enterprise Park, if approved, it would be the only pet cremation service in the local area offering the service.
The plans submitted to Lichfield District Council outline that the current veterinary clinic would be converted into a pet cremation facility. It is anticipated that four to six pets per day could be cremated, however, this could rise to as many as 15.
The plans have support from Michelle Severn at Chrome Butterflies Pole and Aerial Studios, which operates above the proposed development. A letter submitted with the application states: “After speaking with the owner of the proposed new venture, I am confident that their business will be a welcome addition to our building and the local area.
“The complementary business hours mean we will not compete for customer traffic or parking spaces, creating a positive arrangement for both businesses. I believe this new venture will bring positive benefits to our commercial community.”
Customers will primarily be veterinary practitioners and private individuals. Deceased pets will arrive from local vet services, however, individuals can either bring pets to the crematorium or have them collected by staff.
The applicants state that traffic movements generated by the business will be accommodated by the existing road network. No external alterations are proposed apart from the flue from the incinerator.
It is planned that the facility would operate between 8am and 6pm. Strict EU regulations mean that emissions from the cremator are odourless and should not impact the amenity of local residents.
The planning document states: “This proposal will result in the diversification of a successful business with the immediate creation of at least two full time jobs with scope for further job creation as the business grows. Such a business would be sustainable providing a new facility in the region that does not currently exist.”
Residents have until 15 April to submit feedback on the plans. Full details are available on the proposal and how to submit feedback on Lichfield District Council’s planning portal under reference number 26/00381/COU.
