Plans lodged for 140 homes in Staffordshire

The Lichfield Gateway Scheme is described as a flagship regeneration project.

Plans have been submitted for 140 homes in Lichfield City Centre.

This follows a consultation, which took place earlier in the year on the regeneration of the Birmingham Road site.

The Lichfield Gateway Scheme is described as a flagship regeneration project intended to transform the area into a vibrant, welcoming neighbourhood.

The proposal would see the homes built on the former Tempest Ford garage at the junction of St John’s Street and Birmingham Road.

The apartments will include a concierge services, private co-working space, a gym for residents, secure cycle storage, and new landscaped amenity space. Additionally, there are plans for private and communal roof terraces.

The development will have 143 parking spaces in a basement car park and 11 visitor parking spaces. The apartments are proposed to be up to four storeys high with  one storey within the mansard roof.

The design and access statement states: “Lichfield Gateway is the latest flagship regeneration project led by CB Collier, redefining the Birmingham Road Site, as the first phase of a high-quality new neighbourhood for the city. Located opposite Lichfield City Station, the apartment-led scheme will establish a distinctive gateway into the historic centre.

“It will be sensitively designed, guided by an adopted design code and shaped through extensive community engagement. The site provides a good opportunity for residential development due to its close proximity to public transport and the city centre.

“Many other residential units are located in this area but are limited in scale, so not able to make the most of the links. The neighbouring council offices and bus station allows for a larger building due to no concerns of overshadowing on homes, but will require increased security due to the limited amount of activity overnight.”
