Family of 77-year-old woman thank hero Great Barr Asda delivery driver for his help after she fell at home
Luke waited with 77-year-old Carol for paramedics to arrive after she fell and hit her head.
The family of a 77-year-old woman has thanked an Asda delivery driver after he got her help when she fell at home.
Carol, who is a customer of the supermarket on Queslett Road, was walking using her zimmer frame when she tripped and hit her head on the side of the fridge.
She couldn’t get up and didn’t have access to her phone to call for help.
By the time Asda delivery driver, Luke, arrived with her weekly shop, she had been on the floor for around 45 minutes.

In a post on social media, a spokesperson for Asda explained that Luke had knocked on the door but did not get an answer. However, he thought he had heard a noise so peaked through the letterbox and “saw Carol lying on the floor and shouting for help”.
He immediately called 999 before getting in touch with Carol's granddaughter Hannah, whose phone number was on the grocery order, told her what had happened and got a code for the key safe so he could get into the house.
He then waited with Carol until her daughter, Tina, arrived.

Luke said: "I just think it was lucky that I called when I did. I like to think that any of our drivers would have done the same. The most important thing is that Carol is okay."
After Luke finished his deliveries he contacted Hannah to see how her grandmother was.
Now, Carol’s granddaughter Hannah has shared her gratitude for Luke’s actions. She said: "We can't thank Luke enough for what he did; we really appreciate it.
“If he hadn't arrived when he did and sensed something wrong then my grandmother may not have got help until a few hours later when my Mum was due to call in. It was the fact that, after calling me and 999, he stayed with her."
Social media users have also praised the driver for his quick thinking. One person wrote: “There's still some good people out there well done Luke you was an angel in disguise.”
Another added: “These delivery drivers are great human beings, always helpful and go beyond there job requirements. Thank you Luke for being so kind,” while a third commented: “Well done, lovely to hear that there’s still some caring people in the world!”
