Staffordshire Police were called to the scene

Drivers faced disruption on the A5 in Staffordshire this morning after an overturned heavy goods vehicle (HGV) forced the closure of the westbound carriageway.

National Highways said the closure was in place between Wall Roundabout, near Lichfield, and Muckley Corner Roundabout following the incident.

Officers from Staffordshire Police were called to the scene, while recovery teams were arranged to remove the vehicle and clear the road.

An update from National Highways at about 10.20am said the road had reopened.

Posting on X, National Highways said: “The #A5 westbound between #WallRoundabout (A5148) and #MuckleyCornerRoundabout (A461) has reopened following the recovery of an overturned HGV. There are residual delays of 10 minutes and 1 miles of congestion on the approach from both the A5 and A5148. “
