'No further applications received' to develop former Walsall police station site years after flats plan given go-ahead
Walsall Council said it has not received any further applications to develop the site of a former police station in the town after a plan to build flats was given the green light in 2022.
The old police station in Green Lane, Birchills, was demolished in 2019 after officers moved out of the six-storey building in October 2016.
The station had served as the town's primary police base for 50 years and was one of 27 to be closed by West Midlands Police at the time in a bid to generate cash.
Planning permission was granted to build more than 100 flats in March 2022 - but no more applications have been submitted since.

Fresh pictures taken by the Express & Star show what the site looks like six years since the former police station was brought down.
The site remains a pile of rubble, with no sign of activity.

In the design, access and planning statement submitted in 2020 by BM3 Architecture for developers PJK Developments Ltd, it was outlined that the apartments would be offered for "affordable rent", with 70 to be exclusively for people over age 55.

A Walsall Council spokesperson said: "Following the granting of planning permission in March 2022 for 130 one and two bedroom apartments and the demolition of the former police station building, the council has not received any further applications to develop this site.

“While this site is currently allocated for office use (and certain other appropriate uses that would support wider office use), this allocation will be reviewed in the emerging Walsall Borough Local Plan due for public consultation later this year.”
