New reward in appeal for information on unsolved murder of Birmingham man in 2022

The appeal has been launched more than four years after the 41-year-old was murdered

Police have launched a renewed appeal for information that could help police investigating the unsolved murder of a man in Birmingham more than four years ago.

Jinming Zhang died at a flat on Moseley Street in Digbeth on February 9, 2022 after being stabbed and Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20k for information on the 41-year-old’s murder.

West Midlands Police said it had previously released CCTV of the suspect who is described as black, aged in his late 20s at the time, around 5ft 4ins tall and of an average build and who was wearing dark clothing, a dark hat and a mask.

The CCTV footage captures the suspect walking along Barford Street just before the murder.

The force said a DNA sample from the suspected killer that was found at the scene was submitted for extensive forensic testing and found that the suspect is a man and there’s a 99.99 per cent probability that he is black.

However, there was no match found on the national DNA database and Jenny Birch, who is overseeing the investigation and appeared on Crimewatch today as part of the fresh appeal, said she hoped people would come forward.

She said: “Someone out there knows something, and we won’t give up until we have answers.

“Mr Zhang was killed in such awful circumstances, and we will not stop until we find out who did this to him.

“People needn’t be afraid to come forward with names. The DNA sample we have means that we are able to quickly and easily eliminate people from our ongoing investigation.

“If you have any information no matter how small, please get in touch. It could be small to you, but key to our investigation.”
