New future for Bridgnorth's former Original Factory Shop

Planning application lodged to erect new signs welcoming another high street retailer to the Shropshire town centre

High street retailer Mountain Warehouse looks set to open a new store in the former home of Bridgnorth's legendary The Original Factory Shop.

New plans have been lodged to put up signage on the vacant, grade II listed unit at 16 High Street.

Mountain Warehouse, which already operates stores in Oswestry, Telford and Wolverhampton, sells a wide range of outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment such as tents, luggage and fitness kit.

Job adverts have already appeared online advertising positions for staff to work in the new store which is due to open in mid-July.

The large unit in High Street was also previously home to retail legend Woolworths and before that a hotel.

It sits in a prime location in the heart of Bridgnorth town centre, ideally suited to a well-known high street name.

The Original Factory Shop sold a broad range of everyday items such as cleaning and beauty products, electrical goods and footwear and was known as a landmark in Bridgnorth town centre but closed at the end of March.

It fell into administration in January alongside its sister company, accessories retailer Claire's.

Mountain Warehouse has been contacted for comment.
