'Much-loved' Bewdley riverside pub with 'rich history' sold to new owners with big plans for its future

The pub, which has built a strong reputation as a destination for locals and visitors, has been taken over by new owners

A popular riverside pub in Bewdley, Worcestershire, has been sold to new owners.

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of the lease for The Mug House Inn, overlooking the River Severn in the historic Georgian town.

The charming inn has built a strong reputation as a destination venue for locals and visitors, and benefits from strong year‑round guest numbers due to its riverside setting, heritage architecture, and proximity to the Wyre Forest.

The venue offers more than 115 covers across a range of internal and external trading areas, alongside four en suite letting rooms and a manager's apartment, and it’s rear patio area with outside garden bar is particularly popular as it offers year round usability.

Following a sales process led by James Dodd at Christie & Co, the lease for The Mug House Inn has been sold to Tricrest Group, a local operator with a number of businesses across the region focusing on well-cooked food and a family feel.

Hossey Saghri, who operated the pub for the past seven years, decided to sell the business to enjoy his retirement.

He thanked his customers for their support over the years and said: “I have had the pleasure of working with some great friends over my tenure of seven years at The Mug House. The people of Bewdley are the best locals I have had the pleasure of meeting in my 40 years in the trade. I wish Viyan and the new owners a prosperous future and hope they are as happy as I have been in my time at The Mug House.”

Viyan Fernando, managing director at Tricrest Group, said: “We are incredibly proud to be taking on The Mug House Inn, a much-loved establishment with a rich history and a special place in the Bewdley community. What attracted us most was its unique character, welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to build on the foundations already established.

“Our vision is to preserve everything people love about The Mug House while bringing fresh energy, new ideas and a continued focus on great food, quality drinks and genuine hospitality.

“We are particularly looking forward to welcoming the local community, supporting our team and creating memorable experiences for every guest who walks through our doors. We are genuinely excited about the journey ahead and look forward to making this a successful new chapter for the Mug House.”

The pub was sold for an undisclosed sum, from a leasehold asking price of £69,995.

James Dodd, at Christie & Co, said of the sale: “The Mug House is a fantastic business in a unique riverside setting, and we were delighted to see such strong buyer interest throughout the sales process. We wish the new owners every success for the future.”
