Mother of Cody Fisher murderer standing trial for assisting an offender after the 2022 Boxing Day killing in Birmingham
The mother of murderer Kami Carpenter, who stabbed to death footballery Cody Fisher in a Digbeth nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day in 2022, is standing trial for assisting a defender.
Kami Carpenter, 23, was found guilty of murdering Cody Fisher at the Crane nightclub in Digbeth in Birmingham at the city's crown court last year alongside his co-defendant Remy Gordon. He was given life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years.
His mother, Jahzeen Carpenter, aged 39, from Himley Court, Lower Gornal, Dudley, is standing trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court for assisting an offender who committed murder.
The charge she is denying is that she "without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, transported Kami Carpenter to London in possession of suitcases and belongings with an intention to take to an airport and leave the country.
"This was intending to impede the apprehension or prosecution of Kami Carpenter believing him to be guilty of the offence or some other offence which carries a term of imprisonment of five years or more."
Police arrested Kami, who had suitcases in his possession, in the days following the murder after he had booked a flight to Jamaica.

Non-league footballer Cody, who played for teams across the West Midlands, was 23-years-old when he was murdered.
Mrs Carpenter's trial is expected to last five days and is being presided over Judge Simon Ward.
