Military vehicle parade through Stourbridge to remember those fallen in conflict
Parade will be first since sponsor was killed in plane crash
Hundreds of people are expected to line the streets of Stourbridge tomorrow (Saturday) for the town’s military vehicle parade.
The event, which starts at 10.40am with two minutes’ silence at the top of High Street, will then set off at 11am, travelling along High Street and Market Street.
Poppy appeal organiser Suzanne Webb said this year’s event would be particularly poignant following the death of the parade’s principal sponsor Tony Hall, a military veteran who was killed in a recent plane crash.
Miss Webb, a former MP for the town, said the parade was about something far greater than the vehicles themselves.

“At 10.40 am, we will stand together in silence to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of those local who gave so much for our country, and to remember those who never came home.
“This year, that moment of reflection will be especially poignant as we also remember Tony Hall — a proud veteran, local businessman, a generous supporter of the parade and, above all, a much-loved friend to many.
“Tony believed deeply in the importance of remembrance. His generosity and unwavering support helped make this parade possible, and it is heart-breaking that he will not be here to see the community come together. "
Local cadets will once again play an important role, distributing Union Jack flags ahead of the parade and collecting donations for the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal along the route.
Former paratrooper Mr Hall, who was managing director of the Lye-based Pegasus group, was killed in a plane crash in the Fluhalp area of Leukerbad on September 15. He was 42.
Deputy lieutenant for the West Midlands Louise Bennett and former regional mayor Sir Andy Street are also expected to attend.
