Midwinter Celebration day at Cannock museum helps visitors to shake off the mid winter blues

In the Bleak Midwinter is a famous poem and song, but visitors to the Museum of Cannock Chase on Saturday had plenty of activities for all the family to brighten up what was a freezing cold day.

As part of their "Midwinter Celebration" there were two new exhibitions  to view on Saturday -- Birds of Cannock Chase and Beyond and art inspired by Nancy Foster’s poetry, which officially opened on Sunday, but visitors got an exclusive preview.

The Stafford Morris performed dances and there was a drama performed by a group from Dove Valley, a traditional Holly and Oak play and craft making for children which included the chance to make clay owls, leaf crowns and bird feeders.

All Christmas stock at the museum was discounted and hundreds of people came through the door at the under threat attraction.

Rachel Gentle, from the museum, said: "January is traditionally a time where people take stock after Christmas and wind down a little bit but they also want cheering up and entertaining and the Midwinter Celebration day of activities here certainly seemed to do that with something for everyone."
