Midlands M6 reopens following 'police-led incident' - delays remain on approach

Traffic was halted in both directions of the M6 due to a police incident.

The M6 was forced to close in both directions earlier today due to a ‘police-led incident’ on the carriageway.

The motorway was initially shut both northbound and southbound in Staffordshire, between Junctions 14 (Stafford and Stone) and Junction 15 (Stoke and Newcastle-under-Lyme).

However, following a second incident, the closure will now extend to Junction 16 (Crewe and Nantwich).

The initial incident is reported to have taken place shortly before 6pm, and is reported to have involved a pedestrian.

National Highways West Midlands said earlier today: “Traffic is stopped in both directions on the M6 in Staffordshire between Junction 14, for Creswell, and Junction 15, Hanchurch, due to a police led incident.

“Police are on the scene dealing. There are currently 15-minute delays on approach.”

Delays of 40 minutes were reported as of 7.47pm.

The M6 between Junction 14 and Junction 15 was reopened as of 8.24pm; however, delays of 30 minutes remain on approach.

The spokesperson added: “The M6 in Staffordshire is now open in both directions between Junction 14 and Junction 15 following a police-led incident.

“There are currently 30-minute delays on the approach.”

Emergency services have been approached for further information.
