Man charged with knife and theft offences after incident at Tamworth shop

Officers searched the man's bag and discovered items linked to a reported theft from another store

A man has been charged with knife and theft offences following an incident at a shop in Tamworth.

Riyen Lea, 39, of no fixed address, has been charged with possession of a bladed or sharply pointed article in a public place, theft from a shop and failing to comply with a community protection notice.

It comes after Staffordshire Police officers responded to reports of a man attempting to leave a shop on Elmhurst Drive without paying for goods.

Officers searched the man's bag and discovered items linked to a reported theft from another store, along with a lock razor.

Lea was due to appear at Newcastle-under-Lyme Magistrates Court today (Monday, October 19).
