Major Wodehouse Lane Bridge repairs get under way as road closure starts

Workers were spotted on the South Staffordshire road

Works on a stretch of road between Wombourne and Sedgley have begun.

The seven-week closure is now in place, with diversion routes operating while contractors carry out repairs to the Grade II-listed Wodehouse Lane Bridge.

The refurbishment forms part of wider efforts to maintain key transport infrastructure across the area while safeguarding historically significant structures.

Engineers will assess the condition of the bridge deck, repair damaged sections, and improve drainage systems to help prevent future deterioration caused by water ingress and wear.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for journeys and follow signed diversion routes throughout the duration of the works.

The road is scheduled to reopen once the refurbishment programme is completed later this summer.
