Avanti West Coast confirmed that the signalling failure has blocked all routes through the Staffordshire station

Passengers travelling on the West Coast Main Line are facing significant disruption today after a signalling system fault at Lichfield Trent Valley brought all rail lines through the station to a standstill.

The incident was ongoing as of 10am on Tuesday.

Train operator Avanti West Coast confirmed that the signalling failure has blocked all routes through the Staffordshire station, resulting in cancellations and delays affecting services across the region.

The incident is impacting multiple routes between London, the Midlands, North West England and Scotland, with passengers being advised to check before travelling and allow extra time for their journeys.

To help customers continue their journeys, emergency ticket acceptance arrangements have been put in place with several other train operators.

Passengers can use Avanti West Coast tickets on London Northwestern Railway services between London Euston and Crewe or Liverpool Lime Street via Birmingham New Street. Additional acceptance is also available on West Midlands Railway services between Lichfield Trent Valley and Birmingham New Street.

CrossCountry is honouring tickets between Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly, as well as on routes serving Nuneaton and Tamworth. These arrangements are valid in both directions and will remain in place until further notice.

Rail officials are working to resolve the signalling issue, but no estimate has yet been provided for when normal services will resume.

Further updates will be issued as more information becomes available.
