City of Wolverhampton College is building a new state-of-the-art campus in the heart of the city, replacing its outdated buildings in Paget Road, Compton.

The council describes the campus as 'the jewel in the crown' of its city learning quarter scheme, which will also see upgrades to the neighbouring college buildings, and the city library in Snow Hill.

The college also opened an £8.1 million advanced technology and automotive centre at its campus in Wellington Road, Bilston, in September last year.

The new building, on the site of the former ABC cinema - and more recently the Oceana night club - on the corner of Garrick Street and Bilston Street, will provide accommodation for more than 2,000 students and nearly 200 staff.

The foundations and steelwork was completed earlier this year, with the walls, and cladding almost complete.

The project was supported by a £6.2 million investment from Wolverhampton Council and Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership, which enabled the completion of design work, site surveys, ground investigations, site acquisition and clearance.

The council also secured £20 million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund and £5 million from the Towns Fund to help deliver the vision.

The college forecasts that over a 10 year period about 45,000 people will benefit from learning at the City Learning Quarter and about 7,500 apprenticeships will be started.
