Police and bailiffs attended the scene of an illegal traveller encampment in Wolverhampton

A huge group of travellers with up to 20 caravans set up an unauthorised encampment at the Gorsebrook Road transit site on May 10.

Police were joined by bailiffs with tow trucks at the site for several hours on Wednesday before the travellers left en masse at around 7.30pm.

The controversial taxpayer-funded site cost £455,000 to build and opened in September 2021, with the intention of preventing illegal incursions in other parts of the city.
