Boy appears in court charged with rape and murder of Viktorija Sokolova

A teenage boy accused of raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl who was found dead in Wolverhampton's West Park has appeared in court.

Viktorija Sokolova was discovered in the park last week, sparking a murder investigation.

The 16-year-old suspected of killing her, who can't be named for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during the five-minute hearing at Dudley Magistrates Court this morning.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court tomorrow.

Forensic teams have been combing the park over the last few days following the discovery of the schoolgirl's body.

Viktorija, who was born in Lithuania, was described as a 'little angel' by her devastated family who paid tribute to her following her death.
