Teenage girl found dead in West Park named as Viktorija Sokolova

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murdering the 14-year-old from Lithuania.

The teenage girl whose body was found in West Park has been named as Viktorija Sokolova.

The 14-year-old was reported missing on Wednesday, but was found dead just after 7am yesterday in the Wolverhampton park.

A post-mortem examination concluded Lithuanian-born Viktorija, who lived locally to the park, died from blunt force trauma to her head.

Two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, who were arrested this morning on suspicion of her murder remain in police custody.

West Midlands Police said West Park is expected to remain closed over the weekend while a comprehensive forensic examination is conducted.

Superintendent Harvi Khatkar, of Wolverhampton Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Viktorija's family and friends at this terrible time.

“We fully understand that people will be really concerned about what has happened, but we have a dedicated team of detectives working on the investigation.

“Extra patrols will be taking place in the area and I’d encourage anyone with concerns to speak to their local officers."
