Two Black Country areas named as ‘lucrative’ hotspots for sex workers due to M6 proximity

Sex workers see Walsall and Wolverhampton as ‘the most lucrative’ places to work, according to a health and social care boss.

It has been speculated that the area’s proximity to the M6 results in higher than average footfall of punters, and is attracting sex workers from other areas within the region.

The comments were heard at a meeting of Walsall Council’s social care and health scrutiny committee.

David Walker, a senior manager in the relevant department at Walsall Council, said that while the authority is supporting people to exit the trade, the numbers are not decreasing.

He said: “The problem we’ve got is that Walsall and Wolverhampton are now seen as the most lucrative places to work.

“The police are saying they’re noticing women from Birmingham coming into Walsall to work because for some reason – we’ve got the lorry parks, lorry drivers, companies and so on – a lot of traffic comes through the M6 and this is the place where they tend to find the trade.

“It’s not decreasing as we want to, but we’re just trying to manage it so there’s support for these women.”
