The crash happened on the A38 northbound carriageway near to the Kingsway Islands in Derby.

The 66-year-old was driving a blue VW Transporter van when it crashed off the motorway after smashing with a white VW Crafter van at 11.10am on Wednesday.

A 56-year-old man from Somercotes in Derbyshire, who was the driver of the white van, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but he has since been released under investigation as police continue their enquiries.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident as well as the moments leading up to it - in particular they would like to hear from any drivers with dashcam footage.

"Anyone with video footage of the incident is asked to download it and keep it in a secure manner for an officer to view and then contact Derbyshire police on social media, at derbyshire.police.uk/Contact-Us or by calling 1010, with reference 19*359097."
