Councillor Aftab Nawaz has contacted the authority about Mellish Road in Walsall which he said residents now just use to dump rubbish on.

He said: "There used to be an old church but it got knocked down.

"It's a good way into the town centre and it looks really horrible.

"People have been using it for dumping things.

"I'm calling upon the council to look at doing something, even if it's getting the owners to clear the land and allow the community to plant on it.

"It's quite dangerous for people walking past as the fences are falling over, it can be hazardous.

"There has been a whole generation that has grown up seeing that land as scrap land.

"The council could try and fix it and the local community could then look after it.

"We should be encouraging our community to do environmentally friendly things."

Walsall Council has been contacted to make a comment.
