The local man, in his 60s, is thought to have been travelling in slow moving traffic on Birmingham Road when he struck the central reservation and was hit by the lorry just after 4.30pm today.

The lorry driver continued on his journey and is believed to have been unaware of the crash, but has since been found, according to West Midlands Police.

An air ambulance was called to the crash, which happened near to The Bell pub, but the motorcylist was pronoounced dead at the scene as nothing could be done to save him, police said.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "The road remains closed while collision investigators establish the exact circumstances of what happened."

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident, or has dash cam footage, to get in touch with them by emailing FL_COLLISION_INVEST@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk

Traffic was queueing in both directions after the crash, and police said the route was unlikely to reopen until late evening.
