Motorists in Brewood urged to find alternative routes for Christmas event after burst main forces bridge closure
People travelling into Brewood for a Christmas lights switch-on tomorrow (Sunday) are being advised to use alternative routes due to an emergency bridge closure.
The advice has been given due to an emergency canal bridge closure caused by a burst water main.
The Canal and River Trust bridge on Kiddemore Green Road/High Green west of the village has been damaged and is now closed to traffic to ensure people’s safety.
Anyone travelling to the event which is scheduled to take place at 7pm is being urged to allow extra journey time and plan a different route if necessary.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways Patrick Allen said: "This emergency bridge closure is on a main route into the village from the west of Brewood and so we’d ask people to allow extra journey time and plan in advance of travel.
"This will be a really busy weekend for Brewood so we want people to have as much notice as possible before tomorrow’s event.
"While this isn’t a county council bridge, we’ll be working with the Canal and River Trust as it plans its repairs, and keep people updated accordingly.”
