Paramedics were at a nursing home in High Street, Princes End, in Tipton, at around 7.50pm yesterday when they heard a collision and found a moped rider lying in the road outside.

After realising the severity of his injuries, the crew requested back up from two further ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic.

The collision involved a car and the moped.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the male rider was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police have launched an investigation into the collision – and say the driver of the car involved is helping with their enquiries.

'His family are being supported'

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating a fatal collision on Princes End High Street in Tipton, just before 8pm on Monday night.

“A 16-year-old motorcyclist sadly died at the scene following a collision with a car.

"His family are now being supported by specialist officers.

“The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with enquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact us."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The first ambulance crew commenced resuscitation efforts on the male, who was in a critical condition, while ambulance colleagues responded to the scene.

“Once on scene, the team of ambulance staff and MERIT worked together to administer advanced life support to the patient.

"Sadly, despite their very best efforts, nothing could be done to save the moped rider and he was confirmed deceased a short time later.”
