Delivery driver Ibrar Ahmed, of Blackheath, is volunteering for the NHS and helping his local school deliver free school meals

Ibra Ahmed, 37, from Blackheath, in Rowley Regis, has been volunteering his spare time to support others since the country was placed into lockdown last week.

Mr Ahmed, who works as a driver for Uber Eats and Deliveroo, contacted his children's school, Ormiston Forge Academy, in Cradley Heath, to see how he could help – and is now out everyday delivering dozens of free school meals to vulnerable families.

He has also volunteered for the British Red Cross and the NHS, to help deliver medication, take people to hospital appointments and pick up groceries.

Mr Ahmed said: "I am a Uber Eats and Deliveroo driver, since lockdown I wanted to do something productive – and help others, while I still can. I have signed up with the British Red Cross and am volunteering for the NHS, delivering medication, ferrying patients to their appointments, picking up groceries.

"I also emailed my children's school, Ormiston Forge Academy, to offer my services. So since then, I have been delivering the free school dinners to children at their homes. I'm delivering at least 20 meals a day.

"It is just something little I am doing to help out others – we all need to do our little bit.

"Helping others is in my nature. I just want to help the local community with whatever they need. I want my children to see what I am doing and learning, so when they are older they will hopefully become charitable too.

"We all have to do our bit during this period of time, and we all need to stick together."
