Four people died after a yellow Skoda Fabia crashed into the tree in Kingswinford, on October 13.

Dozens of floral tributes, messages and personalised items were left on the tree and underneath it in Bromley Lane, some of which were taken down just two days after Christmas.

Andrea Williams, the mother of Nathan Cartwright, who died from his injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital four days later, said she is grateful that the items have been handed in and will be returned to the families.

Joshua Parkes, Lucy Tibbetts and Isabelle Floyd were pronounced dead at the scene and a 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital.

Miss Williams added: "The family liaison officer that we've been dealing with rang me on Wednesday and said someone had handed them in at the police station anonymously.

"We don't know who took them down, it's all been cleaned, we are going to get them back.

"I am just grateful.

"The officer is going to bring it round and give it to the families.

"I'm not going to put mine back on the tree as I'm having a bench done for Nathan in the summer so I'll keep bits and put stuff around the bottom of the tree and wait until he's got his proper memorial bench.

"I'm grateful someone has handed it in and not thrown it away. All the other family and friends are grateful too as we didn't think we'd get it back."
