Large police cordon put in place around Birmingham Library following police 'welfare' incident

A large cordon was put into place outside of Birmingham Library following a police 'welfare' incident.

West Midlands Police have said that they were in attendance at Chamberlain Square, Birmingham, today, where a large cordon was put into place over the welfare of a man.

It comes after police attended Birmingham Library over concerns for the welfare of a man, who was said to be on the building's roof. 

A force spokesperson initially said: "We are currently at Chamberlain Square following concerns for the welfare of a man. 

"A cordon remains in place, but nearby roads are not affected."

All emergency services were in response to the incident, with West Midlands Poliec confirming that a cordon had been placed around the building

Pictures sent to the Express & Star also show West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Midlands Fire Service in attendance. 

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that one ambulance, a paramedic officer, and a Hazardous Area Response Team were in attendance at the incident.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: "We were called shortly after 11am to concerns for a patient's welfare on Broad Street, Birmingham. 

"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team are currently in attendance at the scene."

No roads were said to be affected by the cordon. 

West Midlands Police have now announced that the man has been brought down safely and is with officers.
