Police have launched an appeal for information after the 70-year-old woman had her luggage stolen.

The stolen suitcase contained valuable items including thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and personal items.

The incident happened at around 5.30pm on June 19, on board a train between Birmingham New Street and Reading.

Police said the victim left her suitcase in the luggage compartment of the 2.30pm service from Birmingham New Street.

At Reading, she realised it was missing.

The offender is thought to have left the train at Leamington Spa. The stolen bag was found on a towpath near a canal in Leamington but it was empty.

Officers want to speak to the man shown in the CCTV images as he may have information which could help with the investigation.

Investigating officer, PC Katherine Billingham, said: “We believe that there may have been other victims of theft on board this service, and I would like to hear from anyone who has any information or would like to report anything who has not yet spoken to police."

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images, should call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 372 17/07/17.
