Lightning strikes another West Midlands home as thunderstorms hit region again

Fire crews were called to a property in the area on Sunday afternoon as thunderstorms swept across the region once again.

A home in Wellington was believed to have been struck by lightning on Sunday afternoon as thunderstorms once again swept across the region.

Firefighters from Wellington were called to a residential property in Parklands at around 5.26pm on August 30 following reports of a house fire.

It is believed lightning struck the property and travelled through the building via an aerial cable, routing into the lounge.

Two fire appliances attended from Wellington, with crews isolating the electricity supply before carrying out an inspection of the property using a thermal imaging camera.

A short extension ladder was also used during the incident. No further details about injuries have been reported.

The incident comes just days after a lightning strike caused significant damage to a home in Telford during the severe thunderstorms that hit Shropshire last week.

That incident on Edith Close was described as being “like a bomb” as torrential rain and lightning hit the area.

With thunderstorms returning to the region on Sunday, the Wellington incident highlights the potential dangers of lightning strikes to homes and electrical systems.
