Lidl unveils fresh plans for new Wolverhampton supermarket - here's what's in store
The new store planned off Penn Road will create up to 40 jobs.
Supermarket giant Lidl has unveiled fresh plans to build a brand new store in Wolverhampton.
The new store, which would create up to 40 new jobs, would be built at the Goldthorn Hotel site off Penn Road, replacing the existing hotel building which would be demolished following planning approval.
The site received planning permission in 2023, however, due to delays in completing the site purchase, Lidl had not been able to begin construction.
The discounter has now updated its plans to the latest store specifications, requiring a new planning application.
The plans now include the chain’s latest store design, featuring an in-store bakery and much-loved Middle of Lidl.

Outside, new landscaping proposals are being developed including tree and shrub planting, and a larger car park is being proposed with over 90 car parking spaces including four rapid electric vehicle charging bays, dedicated accessible and parent-and-child parking spaces as well as covered bicycle parking.
Lidl has now launched a public consultation to gather feedback from residents on the new proposals.
A leaflet with a freepost feedback form is being delivered locally and feedback can also be provided at wolverhampton.newsite.lidl.co.uk.
Joe Caunt, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “It’s no secret we have been keen to deliver a new Lidl store at this site off Penn Road for some time.
“We are pleased to present these new plans which would deliver our very latest store format including our full, great value product range and ever-popular in-store bakery.
“We encourage as many people as possible to engage with our consultation and provide feedback as we prepare our planning submission.”
