Watch: Drone footage shows how Wolverhampton's new Lidl store is taking shape on former abattoir site

Construction is expected to continue over the coming months

Fresh drone footage has captured the impressive transformation of the site of Wolverhampton's newest Lidl store, where construction is now well under way.

The development, on the former F A Gills abattoir site off Parkfield Road, is beginning to take shape just weeks after demolition work was completed and builders moved onto the site.

Our latest aerial video shows the previous building has been totally demolished on the 1.28-hectare brownfield site. The project marks a major milestone in the regeneration of a location that had stood largely unused since the demise of the long-established meat wholesaler.

Once complete, the new state-of-the-art Lidl store will provide more than 2,000 square metres of retail space, along with over 100 customer parking spaces, electric vehicle charging points and cycle parking. The development is also expected to create around 40 new jobs for the area.

The supermarket forms part of a wider regeneration scheme which will also include 17 new homes, helping to breathe new life into a prominent gateway site in Wolverhampton.

Construction is expected to continue over the coming months, with the building now becoming increasingly recognisable from the air.
