Late night fire call out in Birmingham disrupts tram services

There was a fire on Broad Street.

A late-night fire call in Birmingham caused disruption to tram services.

West Midlands Metro confirmed there were no services running between Birmingham Library and Edgbaston after a fire incident on Broad Street at around 9.50pm.

A spokesperson for the transport operator said: “Due to a fire on broad street there is no service between library and Edgbaston village. Service is operation between Wolverhampton and library only. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed this incident was a “false alarm caused by steam issuing from two manhole covers. Most likely hot water entering the sewage system and mixing with effluent.”

One crew attended the scene from Ladywood fire station but the call was stood down within 10minutes.
