Kinver firefighters to climb 119 floors in full PPE in memory of 9-11 attacks

Two Staffordshire firefighters are raising funds to complete a 119-floor memorial climb this September.

Two Kinver firefighters are set to climb 119 floors in full PPE in memory of those who lost their lives in the 9-11 terror attacks.

This year will mark 25 years since Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger planes in the United States and flew two of the aircrafts into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing both towers to collapse.

It has since been dubbed the deadliest act of terrorism in world history on September 11, 2001, which resulted in 2,977 fatalities - including 343 firefighters from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).

On that day, rescue workers didn’t manage to make it higher than the 78th floor of the World Trade Center's South Tower - but in honour of those who lost their lives, Staffordshire Fire Service firefighters Pete and Dan will climb 119 floors, which is more than the total number of floors that were in the towers.

The two firefighters, who are based at Kinver fire station, are looking to raise £1,500 for charity before they jet off to America to complete the memorial climb in full PPE on September 3, 2026. So far, they have raised over £400 on GoFundMe.

In a post on social media, firefighter Paul White said: “There is now just 50 days until our charity stair climb in memory of the 343 firefighters that tragically died during the terror attack on the world trade centre. Myself and Dan from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue based at Kinver Fire Station will be climbing 119 floors in full PPE to raise money for three great charities.

“We thank all those that have donated so far but we are still yet to reach our fundraising target and it’s not too late. To find out more or to donate please follow the link to our fundraising page.”
