Revealed: Face of child sex offender who used aliases to befriend mothers of schoolgirls

Police have released a photograph of the repeat child sex offender who used alias names to befriend mothers

This is the face of a “persistent” child sex offender who was jailed for defying court orders that ordered him not to go to places popular with families.

James Broadhurst, aged 50, of School Street, Willenhall, was jailed for 22 months at Wolverhampton Crown Court for possessing indecent images, making more than 1,000 category C images of a child, and eight breaches of a court order between 2020 and 2024.

In 2010, for making indecent images of children, the warehouseman was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order which included conditions not to go to places frequented by under-18s and not to have pictures of children.

He went on to strike up an intimate relationship with one mother and befriended another using the aliases Jay Hope, Jay Cerabus, and Jay Jim, and failed to tell the women that he had convictions and prohibitions relating to child sex offences.

He also turned up at a 13-year-old girl’s school show in Somerset after buying himself a ticket.

The breaches and offences were discovered when West Midlands Police paid him a visit in November 2024 and checked his electronic devices. He had attended children’s parties, visited Alton Towers, the Trentham Monkey Forest, Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland in Windsor.

He also stayed at an address in Romford where young children lived and bought them gifts. He also had photos of them wearing fancy dress costumes on his computer.

He must serve at least half the new term before being released on licence and will be subject to supervision for 12 months. He will be subject to a new sexual harm prevention order for an indefinite period.

The recorder ordered the forfeiture and destruction of his laptops and phones.

Broadhurst, who worked in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, pleaded guilty to the offences.
